History of Uniview
Uniview started their surveillance journey in 2005 and became an independent manufacturer in 2011. Instead of following in the footsteps of many, Uniview pushed the technology boundaries and started with IP video surveillance, making them the first IP manufacturer in China. They had a vision, an IP (Internet Protocol) vision and shaped their entire company around this vision. In 2014 UNV entered the global market and has since flourished with almost 100% year on year annual growth.

Do I Need to buy a Uniview NVR?
Yes, the NVR is the brain of the operation, it is where you control everything, set your settings for your surveillance system and install your hard drives in the NVR making it a convenient unified management system. You also connect your NVR to your router for connectivity, this will allow you to use your EZView mobile app to monitor your footage from anywhere in the world.
What is IK10 and IP67?
IK10 means vandal resistant, this feature is available with all Uniview dome cameras. The physical dome is IK10 rated to protect the camera lens against vandalism.
IP67 means waterproof and dust resistant. This feature is crucial for outdoor surveillance systems. Anything less than IP66 should be considered an indoor camera.
What video compression is the best to use to save maximum space?
Uniview has released a video compression called Ultra H.265 that can help reduce your bandwidth consumption and storage by up to 80-95% with no loss in quality. This compression is available on all UNV IP cameras and NVRs.
Why is human body detection important?
This feature will help you save space and bandwidth as it will only record when a human figure is detected. This feature will also help reduce false alarms.
What are the UNV warranties?
Each camera series has its warranty duration:
- Easy – 1-year warranty
- Prime – 2-year warranty
- Pro – 3-year warranty
What is a varifocal lens and a fixed lens?
You get two types of varifocal lenses, manual and motorised lens. With the manual lens, you will have to physically adjust the lens on the camera, but with a motorised lens, you can change your view of angle remotely. For example, if you have a camera with a varifocal lens of 2.8-12.5mm. A 2.8 mm is a wide-angle view and the higher up you go the more narrow the view of angle will be.
A fixed lens is a lens with a fixed view of angle, UNV has a 2.8, 3.6, 4 and a 6 mm lens depending on your needs. A fixed lens camera is usually more cost-effective. For example, if you are installing in a business park you would want a 2.8 mm lens camera as it gives you a wide view of angle, but if you install in a retail shop above a counter you would need a more focused lense such as a 6.00 mm.
Why do I need Smart analytics?
Smart analytics is not always necessary for every application, it depends on each scenario, but smart features simply improve the effectiveness of the system. Let’s take line crossing and motion detection for example.
If you have a surveillance system at a school you typically won’t need smart features as the areas are too busy and will cause a lot of unnecessary alerts, therefore during the day you would not need analytics. However, after 6 pm the school grounds will be relatively quiet meaning your analytics can kick in. You can set schedules from 6:00 PM-06:00 AM for your analytics to be active, this will then send you any movement if it is detected in those areas.
Smart analytics will also help you save storage space as it only records when something is detected, and it will also help you save on bandwidth.
What is auto-tracking?
Auto-Tracking is a feature that is available with the PTZ range. This feature allows the PTZ cameras to follow and zoom in on a person, car or object once it enters a certain perimeter area.
