Ubiquiti UISP airMAX PowerBeam M5 25dBI 5GHz Radio | PBE-M5-400

Ubiquiti UISP airMAX PowerBeam M5 25dBI 5GHz Radio | PBE-M5-400

The Ubiquiti airMAX PowerBeam M5 400 is a 5 GHz wireless bridge built for high-performance long-range connectivity in Point-to-Point (PtP) and Point-to-Multipoint (PtMP) setups. Its 25 dBi antenna with a 400 mm dish reflector delivers reliable TCP/IP throughput exceeding 150 Mbps over distances up to 25 km.

Powered by a 560 MHz Atheros MIPS 74Kc processor, with 64 MB DDR2 RAM and 8 MB flash memory, it operates in the 5170–5875 MHz frequency range and supports channel bandwidths from 5 to 40 MHz. The device includes a single Gigabit Ethernet port and uses passive PoE (24V, 0.5A) for easy installation, with a maximum power draw of 8W.

Designed for tough outdoor conditions, the PowerBeam M5 400 comes in a UV-stabilised plastic enclosure, can withstand winds up to 200 km/h, and works reliably in temperatures from -40 to 70°C. It also features ±24 kV ESD/EMP protection and meets key environmental standards for dependable performance. This makes it a cost-effective choice for wireless ISPs and enterprise networks needing extended wireless coverage in urban and suburban areas.

We at MiRO pride ourselves on being the best Ubiquiti distributor in South Africa

Who is Ubiquiti and what are their products used for?

Ubiquiti is a pioneer in the wireless ISP and enterprise WiFi industry, known globally for their high-performance, affordable wireless networking solutions. They offer a range of products for wireless ISPs, technology integrators, and enterprises, including point-to-point (PtP) and point-to-multi-point (PtMP) broadband solutions. Their portfolio also includes wired products and powerful firmware for flexible, scalable networking applications, from home users to large enterprises.

    History of Ubiquiti

Founded in 2003, Ubiquiti has grown into a globally recognised brand, serving customers through a network of around 100 distributors and online retailers worldwide. Initially focused on using commercial WiFi chipset technology to deliver internet to underserved areas, the company has since expanded its product portfolio to include indoor and outdoor WiFi access points (APs), security cameras, switches, routers and gateways.

Advantages of using Ubiquiti in South Africa

The Ubiquiti product portfolio includes categories such as airFibre, airMAX, EdgeMAX, and UniFi, each offering unique benefits.

airFibre uses Ubiquiti’s proprietary custom silicon to efficiently utilise licensed and unlicensed-band spectrum, making it ideal for crowded RF environments. Featuring a dual-antenna design and self-interference cancellation algorithms, it extracts more usable channels from the available spectrum compared to traditional wireless systems. The built-in configuration tool optimises RF parameters to reduce interference and improve link budgets.

airMAX excels in point-to-multipoint (PtMP) networks, typically consisting of one outdoor base station and multiple CPE devices. With enhanced latency, noise immunity, and scalability, airMAX AC technology supports high data rates and long-distance, fast-to-deploy connections, making it perfect for last-mile deployments, especially in harsh environments like South Africa.

EdgeMAX delivers wired networking solutions for both indoor and outdoor environments. Powered by the feature-rich EdgeOS firmware and housed in a compact, fanless design, the EdgeRouter range offers powerful routing, security, and management features, ideal for fibre deployments and network management in housing developments.

UniFi is Ubiquiti’s all-in-one enterprise WiFi portfolio, supported by a fully integrated software-defined network (SDN) platform. Its versatile features make it suitable for both large-scale enterprise WiFi deployments and home networks.

    MiRO’s partnership with Ubiquiti
