Extreme darkness can severely degrade the performance capabilities of industrial surveillance systems, making Infrared camera the ultimate solution for security applications. They are able to capture clear images even at night or in areas with low levels of light.
In recent years, as IR LED technology has advanced, long-range IR capabilities have been incorporated into surveillance cameras. However, long-range IR generally depends on high IR intensity, which results in overexposure if an object is too close to the LED. For example, a person’s face will be “whited out” so that no features can be discerned, making the images captured unusable for identification purposes.
UNVs Innovative Smart IR technology solves the problem of infrared LEDs whiting out images when they are too close to the IR LEDs of a night vision camera. For example, this can easily happen on an infrared camera with a 20m IR range, monitoring an area where people can approach the camera at a much closer distance (2m for example).
Smart IR Standard infrared security cameras are well suited for applications where the field of view and focal length are fixed and known. However, it’s easy to make the mistake of purchasing an IR camera that does not fit your application when you don’t know the size of the coverage area.
UNV’s range of cameras with Smart IR of up to 100m, takes the guess work out of setting up IR surveillance cameras. They automatically adjust the infrared light required in a scene as the subject moves closer to or further away from the camera, resulting in a clear image that is not washed out or too dark.
The following video compares the night vision capability of UNVs smart IR camera to one without. Notice that when the man gets close to the camera, his face is still visible on the camera that uses smart IR (right), but is over-exposed on the camera that does not have it (left).
