Lithium Batteries in power backup applications for greater efficiency
Lithium Batteries in power backup applications for greater efficiency

Lead Acid batteries have been around for decades and even though they remain popular, it is considered an older and less efficient technology that is being replaced at many power backup sites with Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries.  LiFePO4 provide numerous advantages over Lead Acid batteries such as longer lifetimes, deeper cycling, smaller size, fast charging time and overall greater return on investment.

What are Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries?

Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries also known as LiFePO4 is the most efficient battery on the market and is the future of solar storage, because:

  1. They waste significantly less power when charging and discharging.
  2. They are thermally and chemically stable.
  3. They stay cool in high temperatures – perfect for WISP tower power backup in South Africa.
  4. They are non-combustible, even when mishandled.
  5. They are disposed of far more easily than other batteries because they are nontoxic.

Conventional Lead Acid batteries are less efficient at storing power when compared to LiFePO4 batteries which charge at nearly 100% efficiency, whereas Lead Acid charge at about 85% efficiency.  Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries can operate ten times longer than lead-acid, resulting in fewer costs per kilowatt-hour.

We highly recommend for professional installation, even though the modular design of the LiFePO4 batteries allows for a plug-and-play capability and adding additional batteries as per the power requirements of your site.
