Being able to remotely monitor your solar energy systems are vital to reducing time and costs associated with site visits. To ensure the maximum productivity and availability, it is crucial to closely monitor the performance of your solar power plants to make sure that everything is running smoothly, and the electricity generation rate is upheld. Moreover, to maximise long term performance of your systems, remote monitoring plays an essential role in maintenance, such as part replacement or solar panel cleaning.
This is especially important for off-the-grid systems, which are often in hard to reach or remote areas. In cases like these remote monitoring can be a challenge, because wired Internet sources are rarely available at remote solar power plant locations.
Teltonika has designed a simple yet powerful cellular gateway that can address this connectivity challenge and simplify your remote monitoring. Teltonika’s TRB140 is the ideal solution because of its secure and reliable cellular connectivity via 4G LTE and easy to use user interface, which requires no specialised training.
The above diagram outlines the simplified remote monitoring solution with Victron solar solutions and a Teltonika TRB140 at its core. The solar controller, in this case, for example, a Victron Smart Solar MPPT 100/50 Charge Controller, is the brain of a solar plant or solution. It can create and provide information regarding the status of the solar panels, batteries and much more. In order to access this information, the controller communicates via industrial protocols, one of which, for example, is Modbus TCP. This is where the Teltonika TRB140 comes into play.
The best way to interpret this data is to use a cloud IoT platform where the data is aggregated and presented to the operator with performance metrics and suggested maintenance insights. The TRB140 can deliver this data to the cloud, via a secure and reliable cellular connection.
