The Cambium Force 180: Perfect for short- to medium-distance links
The Cambium Force 180: Perfect for short- to medium-distance links

The ePMP Force 180 is the second generation of ePMP Integrated Radio Modules. It has the exceptional reliability and quality that users have come to expect from the ePMP product line and adds some significant performance enhancements. But is the Force 180 right for you?

Let’s look at the math!

When selecting a radio and antenna for your wireless link it’s important to look at the following criteria:

  1. Radio Output
  2. Antenna Gain
  3. Radio Receive Sensitivity
  4. Frequency
  5. Distance

PtP: For a Cambium Force 180 point-to-point link we have the following specifications:

Radio Output = 30dBm

Antenna Gain = 16dBi

E.I.R.P = Radio Output – Cable Loss + Antenna Gain (For the Force 180 E.I.R.P = 46dB)

Receive Sensitivity for maximum modulation @ 40MHz channels = -69dBm

Radio Sensitivity for minimum modulation @ 40Mhz = -90dBm

Frequency = 5725 MHz

With this information we can calculate the maximum dB loss between Point A and Point B for the maximum modulation as well as the minimum modulation:

  • Max Modulation of MCS15 (270Mbps)

(Radio Output + Antenna Gain) – Receive Sensitivity = Max allowable dB loss

(30dBm + 16dBi) – (-69dB)

46dB + 69dB

= 115dB

  • Min Modulation MCS0 (13.5Mbps)

(Radio Output + Antenna Gain) – Receive Sensitivity = Max allowable dB loss

(30dBm + 16dBi) – (-90dB)

46dB + 90dB

= 136dB

Now that we know we can establish a link with free-space loss of between 115dB and 136dB, we can calculate the theoretical distance achievable with the Cambium Force 180. This can be done by calculating the free-space path loss of the link using maximum and minimum modulation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free-space_path_loss

Force 180 math

Keeping in mind that the calculations are purely based on the theory of wave mechanics and excludes environmental factors we can see that the Cambium Force 180 can theoretically achieve a stable link at an estimated maximum distance of 26km with an air-bitrate of 13.5Mbps. For maximum performance (270Mbps) a link distance of 2.35km is possible.

We recommend to include a fade margin of 15% and 30% over the minimum and maximum distances respectively, to compensate for environmental variables. This yields the following distances.

Maximum distance (13.5Mbps) : 26km – 30% = 18.2km

Distance for maximum throughput (270Mbps) : 2.35km – 15% = 2km

Let’s do a recap of the other amazing features of the Force 180

5GHz integrated radio, sleek and small form factor

The form factor of the radio allows for a quick and easy deployment due to the sleek and small form factor.

Gigabit Ethernet port & PoE injector

It comes equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet port so that nothing will limit this product in delivering the maximum throughput. The radio module is powered by PoE and the Ethernet port has the unique capability of being powered from a PoE injector that conforms to standard pinouts or from a PoE injector that conforms to Cambium pinouts.

200Mbps of real user throughput

The Cambium Networks ePMP Force 180 delivers more than 200 Mbps of real user throughput. Using 2×2 MIMO-OFDM technologies, ePMP deployments achieve industry leading data rates.

Deployment flexibility

Deploy your ePMP Force 180 as an SM or even for PtP solutions. For best results, you can deploy the Force 180 with the ePMP 1000 connectorized range of radios to be able to make use of the GPS Sync, ATPC and CnMaestro options. As mentioned, you can power up your Force 180 with the R201P AP/Router that has a POE out option if the deployment needs such functionalities. The ePMP Force 180 Integrated Radio is a compact and powerful platform that can operate as an Access Point, Subscriber Module or PTP radio.

Powerful proprietary software: eFortify and eCommand

All the unique advantages of ePMP software such as eFortify and eCommand are available with the Force 180. eFortify enhances the performance of the ePMP 1000 in high noise environments. eCommand provides a suite of management features and tools to assist network operators in planning, provisioning and monitoring of their network.

FREE remote management with CnMaestro

Manage and Monitor your entire network, from one cloud-based application, all for Free!

Growth and scalability

The ePMP 1000 delivers high capacity and reliable connectivity right from the start. As a provider’s business grows, it can expand its network while ensuring resiliency and increasing profitability.

QoS

Quality of Service (QOS) allows you to confidently offer triple play services – VoIP (Voice over IP), video and data. Providing your customers with excellent service quality ensures their continued loyalty and transforms them into advocates, helping WISPs and enterprises expand theirs.

Proven reliability

Proven reliability has created an unsurpassed connectivity standard in many industries that depend on fixed wireless broadband. All ePMP products undergo rigorous testing and are made from high-quality components.

Adaptive Modulation Algorithm

The ePMP also supports an intelligent, interference-aware adaptive modulation scheme that balances the jitter requirements of high-quality voice traffic with that of data traffic.
