Top 10 RouterOS Configuration Mistakes (Part 1)

We have put together a list of the top 10 RouterOS configuration mistakes observed in more than 10 years of MikroTik Consultant, Andis Arins’ RouterOS experience. 

We kick-off our list by looking at the mistakes ranked number 10 and 9 on our list:

10-The same IP on multiple interfaces

The problem: “I have set an IP on an interface and cannot connect to that interface.”

What your problem may look like:

 

Solution: Check your interfaces to see if there are more than two interfaces using the same IP.

9-Lack of monitoring

The problem:  Do you know the health of your router? Is it accessible from everywhere it should be? Is your router overloaded?

Solution: You can and should be monitoring your devices by using the following:

  • The Dude (with new features since RouterOS 6.34)
  • Tools: Netwatch, Traffic Monitor, Traffic Flow
