How does Victron MultiPlus work?

The Victron MultiPlus is a combined inverter and charger designed for seamless integration into energy systems. It operates in three main modes:

Inverter Mode: When there's no external AC source, the MultiPlus inverts DC power from the batteries into AC power for your loads.​

Charger Mode: When an external AC source is available, such as shore power or a generator, the MultiPlus charges the batteries and supplies power to the loads.​

PowerAssist Mode: If the external AC source is limited, the MultiPlus supplements it with power from the batteries to meet the demand, preventing overload of the AC source.​

The device features a three-position switch: 'On' (enabling inverter and charger functions), 'Off', and 'Charger Only' (disabling the inverter function).

What Victron inverter do I need?

Selecting the appropriate Victron inverter depends on your power requirements and application. Consider the following factors:

Power Capacity: Determine the total wattage of the devices you plan to run simultaneously.​

System Voltage: Match the inverter voltage to your battery bank voltage (12V, 24V, or 48V).​

Which Victron charger do I need?

• Battery Compatibility: Ensure the charger supports your battery type (e.g., lead-acid, lithium).​

• Charging Current: Select a charger with an appropriate amperage to charge your batteries efficiently without overloading them.​

• Environmental Factors: For outdoor or harsh environments, consider chargers with suitable ingress protection, like the Blue Smart IP65 Charger.

How do the charge states work in ESS?

In Victron's Energy Storage System (ESS), charge states are managed as follows:

• ESS State: MPPT solar chargers operate in the 'ESS' state, indicating they are controlled by the Multi or Quattro inverter/charger via a GX device.​

• VE.Bus State: To monitor the system's status, refer to the VE.Bus State, which provides information on charging phases like Bulk, Absorption, or Float.​

It's normal for the system to display a charging state even during discharging when connected to the grid.

What is auto-recharge?

In the context of ESS, 'auto-recharge' refers to the system's behaviour when the State of Charge (SoC) falls below a set threshold for over 24 hours. The system initiates a slow charge to bring the SoC back to the desired level, ensuring battery longevity and readiness.

Can Victron Blue Smart Chargers/MPPT charge lithium batteries?

Yes, Victron's Blue Smart Chargers are compatible with lithium batteries. They offer charging profiles suitable for Li-ion batteries, ensuring safe and efficient charging.

Can Victron inverters be connected in parallel?

Yes, certain Victron inverters can be connected in parallel to increase power capacity. For instance, up to six MultiPlus units can operate in parallel for higher power output. Proper configuration and symmetrical wiring are essential for optimal performance. Additionally, the VictronConnect app facilitates the setup of parallel, three-phase, and split-phase systems, simplifying the configuration process.
