Who is Mimosa and what are their products used for?
Mimosa Networks, a division of Airspan, provides wireless broadband solutions that enable service providers to connect dense and hard-to-reach areas at a fraction of the cost of fibre.
Their access, backhaul, and client solutions are deployed in a hybrid- fibre-wireless architecture and is engineered for both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint connections across a variety of applications. Mimosa Networks is a pioneer of gigabit wireless technology and delivers extraordinary levels of cost-effective spectral efficiency, allowing scarce spectrum to be concurrently and reliably shared across networks. MiRO offers a wide range of products from Mimosa Networks in South Africa.
History of Mimosa
There’s a growing connectivity gap between consumers who live in highly dense areas where it’s relatively cheap and easy to deploy fibre, versus more rural areas that lack the underlying infrastructure to support higher speeds. And, of course, there are developing parts of the world where wired infrastructure doesn’t exist at all, and where wireless connectivity is still expensive to deploy.
Mimosa was founded in 2012 by a couple of veterans of the telecom and networking technology industry. With three years of development and $38 million raised, Mimosa Networks was ready to take on the challenge of making wireless broadband a lot faster and more affordable, especially in areas that were not served by traditional wired broadband providers.
In 2018 Mimosa Networks was acquired by Airspan, the leading vendor of 4G/5G wireless densification solutions. Together the two companies aim to change the wireless world by developing technology that is capable of outrageous throughput, next level interference avoidance and more subscribers per access point.

What is Mimosa Spectrum Reuse Synchronization (SRS)?
Mimosa SRS solves the high-density fixed wireless challenge and allows base stations to reuse channels across the network. There are two key benefits of SRS:
Dramatically reduces the amount of spectrum required to deliver 5G Fixed services, enabling more subscriber capacity in dense areas.
Faster speeds for subscribers as the reduction of spectrum use allows for larger channels to support fibre-like speeds.
SRS leverages GPS and GLONASS satellite technology, using precision timing across an entire network geography to ensure each A5/A5c base station coordinates their transmissions with clients. This allows other nearby base stations to share that same frequency reducing the possibility of self-interference.
Is SRS compatible with other manufacturers?
Not at this time, however, Mimosa is discussing this possibility with other leading manufacturers and industry standards bodies to improve spectrum reuse and site coordination possibilities for the future.
Do I need external GPS receivers/sync injectors for SRS?
No, a GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System) antenna is integrated into the A5 and A5c directly, providing both GPS and GLONASS reception, doubling the available satellite constellation for deriving timing and location.
What bandwidths are currently supported?
Current subscriber speeds achievable on the Mimosa A5/A5c with SRS will range between 300-700 Mbps of aggregate (upstream + downstream) IP throughput depending on subscriber client capacity on the radio and packet sizes. This assumes 80 MHz channels, and proper deployment of C5 clients with proper link budget to achieve signal levels necessary for the above-mentioned speeds.
What is a MICROPOP?
The Mimosa MicroPoP is a concept for deployment of fixed broadband services over wireless. Designed for dense urban and suburban neighbourhoods, the MicroPoP targets 250-500 Mbps speeds. It is powerful enough to outperform DSL, Cable and Fiber services, at comparable prices.

Do our competitors have a similar offering, or when do we expect our competitors to have a similar offering?
While many of the concepts of GPS based synchronization for spectrum reuse are well proven with legacy Wireless ISP fixed wireless products, Mimosa stands alone as the leader in client speed by 4-5x throughput and is nearly ¼ the cost on a Client R/Mbps measured basis.
