What distance can I connect customers at with the RF elements Horn Antennas?

This question does not have one answers, since there is a lot of factors that determine the distance you will be effectively connecting customers at. It all depends on the environment the Horns are being used in. For an accurate indication, you can use the RF elements link calculator that can be accessed here.

What is the difference between Symmetrical and Asymmetrical Horns?

Symmetrical Horns have a symmetrical beam pattern, meaning that azimuth and elevation cut is the same. For example, a 30-degree Symmetrical Horn’s azimuth is 30 degrees and the elevation is also 30 degrees.

Asymmetrical Horns have an asymmetrical beam pattern, meaning that the beam pattern is wider in the azimuth than what it is in the elevation. For example, a 60-degree Asymmetrical Horn is 60 degrees in the Azimuth and 25 degrees in the elevation.

Asymmetrical Horns also have more gain than Symmetrical Horns and is ideal for rural deployments.

What is beam efficiency?

Beam efficiency is an important antenna parameter for WISPs because it describes the sidelobe levels. Beam efficiency is an indication of the amount to the energy that is within the main lobe and is the ultimate measurement of an antennas side lobes.

Examples of beam efficiency

Beam efficiency is the ultimate measure of antenna side lobes - the higher the beam efficiency, the fewer side lobes. Antenna side lobes cripple the performance of fixed wireless networks. Therefore, antennas used in WISP networks should have beam efficiency as high as possible.

What are the side lobes?

All lobes other than the main lobe are considered side lobes.

How does the noise floor affect my network?

The noise floor represents the other side of the coin when talking about signal quality. Strength of the signal or RSSI is important, but the Noise floor is equally important since the radio sees the signal quality through the SNR, or Signal to Noise Ratio.

Why is an antennas radiation pattern important?

The radiation pattern of an antenna gives you information about your antennas receiving and transmitting properties.

Which Base Stations can be paired with RF elements Antennas?

MiRO sells a vast range of RF elements antennas and can be paired with MiRO’s Cambium ePMP, Mimosa Networks and Ubiquiti base stations.

Does RF elements have a Link Planner to assist me?

Yes, click here

You can also download your calculator results into PDF version, making this a great tool for installers.
